We’re hearing what matters most to you...

After knocking on more than 25,000 doors and speaking with thousands of residents across Cooper, we know life has been getting harder, and it feels like politics has only gotten worse. People are feeling the pinch, but instead of any structural proposals, the Queensland Labor Government only offers pre-election sweeteners and the LNP won’t even tell us their plans.

While regular people struggle with the rising cost of living and public schools and hospitals are underfunded, mining companies are laughing their way to the bank. They are making massive profits by exporting our resources offshore while paying barely any tax.

Did you know?

Over the last 10 years, Queensland mining corporations have exported $644 billion worth of our resources but only paid 9% in royalties, and the top ten biggest companies paid nothing in corporate tax. Even Labor’s new coal royalties plan will stop collecting any significant extra revenue within a few months.

The major parties have taken $267 million from big corporations in the last ten years, and mining corporations are among the main donors. This means Labor and the LNP will always put their profits ahead of everyday Queenslanders.

The Greens have a plan:

The Greens want to make mining corporations finally pay their fair share. We would boost the royalty rate to 35%, even while phasing out existing fossil fuel projects, and use that revenue to fully fund essential infrastructure and services. We would build public homes and make health and education free and universal, setting ourselves up for the future and ensuring everyone has what they need to live a good life.

 Fix the housing crisis

Cap rent increases and make mortgages cheaper with a public bank offering home loans 1.5% below the Big Four banks. Build 100,000 well-designed public homes to rent or buy at below market rate

Tackle climate change

Since coming to power, Queensland Labor has approved 38 new coal mines, and both Labor and the LNP want to open up 15 more. We’ll stop new coal and gas mines, invest in 100% public renewables by 2030 and establish new industries in green manufacturing.

Universal, free healthcare

Free GP visits and psychology sessions with 200 new public health clinics. Clear the elective surgery waiting list and fix emergency departments by properly investing in public hospitals.

Cheaper groceries

Cap grocery prices for 30 essential items and break up the Coles and Woolies duopoly.

Fully funded and free education

Fully fund public schools, kindy and TAFE, abolish fees for parents and provide free club sports and school breakfasts for all Qld kids

Take back control with public ownership

Over decades, Labor and the LNP have privatised essential services and key infrastructure like ports, airport, railways & energy, putting corporate profits over the common good. It’s time to take back control of our economy with public ownership of essential services.

We'll make big corporations pay their fair share

Fund a better life for all Queenslanders by fairly taxing coal & gas, big developers and big banks.
